Pneumatic bolt drilling rig: a powerful tool for bolt support
Apr 17, 2026
A pneumatic rock bolt drill, a drilling device powered by compressed air, is widely used in support operations in coal mines, tunnels, and other engineering projects. Its core features include simple structure, durability, easy maintenance, simple operation, fast drilling speed, and high efficiency.
It has a wide range of applications, particularly suitable for roadways with rock hardness ≤f10, and performs exceptionally well in rock bolt support operations in coal mines. It can drill roof anchor bolt holes and anchor cable holes, and can also mix and install resin-coated anchor bolts and cables, achieving one-time installation and tightening of anchor nuts without the need for other equipment, meeting the initial anchor preload requirements.
During operation, the worker needs to erect the drill and firmly grasp the safety handrails and control handles. The drill is raised by extending the outriggers until the drill bit touches the roof. Then, the worker stands with legs apart and operates the control motor rotary switch to rotate the drill bit while simultaneously extending the outriggers. When the drill rod penetrates approximately 20mm into the roof, water is sprayed to wash away drill cuttings and eliminate dust. The drill bit speed is then adjusted according to the hardness of the roof strata.
Regarding maintenance, the pneumatic rock bolt drilling rig employs a water-oil mist cooling system, effectively reducing equipment temperature and noise, and extending equipment life. Operation is simple; skilled users can operate it after minimal training. It has a wide range of applications, not only for rock bolt support but also for drilling operations in roadway roofs and other coal mining work.
