Current Status and Development of Anchoring Drilling Rig Technology
Apr 02, 2026
As an indispensable piece of machinery in important mining and geotechnical engineering projects, anchoring drilling rigs have developed rapidly in recent years. The development history from the "Saturn" to the "Venus" drilling rigs is a microcosm of the evolution of anchoring drilling rig technology in my country. Anchor bolt drilling equipment, with anchor bolt drilling rigs as the mainstay, is classified by structure into single-unit, rig-type, and machine-mounted types; by power into electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic types; and by rock-breaking method into rotary, impact, impact-rotary, and rotary-impact types. Traditional pneumatic rock drills and coal electric drills are still widely used in coal mine anchor bolt support construction.
The selection of mainstream anchoring drilling rigs varies depending on the type of project. For example, hydropower, mining, dam, and roadbed anchoring projects typically use skid-type lightweight hydraulic anchoring drilling rigs; while deep foundation pit anchoring projects for high-rise buildings more often use tracked self-propelled fully hydraulic anchoring drilling rigs.
Currently, anchoring drilling rig technology is developing towards intelligence and automation. For example, some companies have developed anchoring drilling rig structures that can achieve automatic positioning and drilling, as well as research and development of high-lift, multi-angle drilling and anchoring integrated anchoring drilling rigs.
